I spent days chasing my tail overthinking this, but have it down to this.

Whenever I post an article with Yaost Sharing Add Open Graph meta data “enabled”, I can post to my website, but nothing on Facebook. I used the sharing debugger, and found I was getting a type mismatch. Type=”website”, which FB OG won’t take with the article attributes.

If I disable Yaost’s OG, I can successfully publish to website and FB, BUT debugger gives me “The following required properties are missing: fb:app_id”. But og:type is now “article”. If I turn Yaost’s OG back on, I publish with og:type “website” again. I’ve even tried the “Always Use Open Graph with Jetpack” plug-in, which makes no difference. It also doesn’t matter if I use my current Editorial theme, or one of the pre-installed themes.

To clarify, I am using my own correct Facebook App ID in Yaost, which shows up in the debugger, with all correct attributes, but og:type shows “website”. Disabled, I can post to FB, but no app_id

Any explanation on why Yaost’s OG engine is giving me “website” for an article?

Overall, this is an issue bc I am looking forward to integrating FB login for the comments soon.

  • This can be caused by a conflict with your other plugins or with your theme. Can you please run a conflict check? You may refer to this kb article: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/.

That’s the thing. Ive disabled as many plugins as I can without affecting overall site functionality. Any suggestions on which type of plugins to look for? What type of plugins would push a og:type “website”?

Unfortunately we would not be able to say which type of plugins that would create that specific Open Graph tag. However, if you aren’t able to perform a conflict check on the live site, we would recommend creating a staging site to do additional testing which would allow you to do testing without affecting the live site’s functionality. Some staging sites may be provided by your host provider. Additionally, if needed, this guide explains more about creating a staging site: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/.

we found the same type of problem.

How can i change following setting through yoast setting.

    1) <meta property=”og:type” content=”object” />

    2) <meta property=”og:type” content=”website” />

    3) <meta property=”og:type” content=”article” />

currently when i debug my url in fb tool its shows 1st option. I want to change to 3rd option.
