Add-on ($) options being added automatically without customer selecting it.

Before the update, customers could use the drop downs (that appeared blank upon landing on the page) to select their options and if they wanted to add a customized options for additional $. Now following the update, when you land on the page, the first drop down options are already selected, and thus the price was already increased from the base product price. The customer has no way to clear our these options. I’d like the drop downs to appear blank until the customer chooses an option, like before. Help please.
