Add nofollow in button Read More

    Hi i would like to add no follow in button Read More in Sparkling Theme but i dont kwnow why dont work…??
    I wrote this in content.php:
    <p><a class="btn btn-default read-more" rel="nofollow" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title_attribute(); ?>"><?php _e( 'Read More', 'sparkling' ); ?></a></p>

    why does it not work?
