    I modified the basic template to add the fields I wanted. The only issue is that, if there is an update I might loose that information.

    How do I make the program load my new template and choose it as any other template option ?

    Please refer to the section:

    Our recommendation is to develop a Custom Print Template.

    Using a Custom Print Template will allow you to select the option as a template in the drop down under the Location settings for Templates. Plus using a Custom Print Template will not be affected by any future plugin updates.
