    Hi

I have been unable to post ANYTHING to my sports site, https://www.sportsreporters.com, for a couple of months. The “Add New” button is unresponsive. and while most of the other links were functioning perfectly last month, I just checked them out and am now getting sporadic function from them, as well. I have no idea what’s going on. I just added content to my last posted article, about New York Giants General Manager, Jerry Reese. I inserted the new content, a transcript of Eli Manning’s press conference today, at the early part of the Jerry Reese article but clearly, without an “add new” function, I can’t write anything new without removing something that has already posted.

Please help. I’ve been on the phone with my server, Gate.com, who have told me they have absolutely nothing to do with the function of WordPress.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

    – If these troubleshooting steps don’t resolve the iisue, You can check the codex page on how to Troubleshoot JS Issues in your Browser Console.

    Hi Tara,

Thanks for responding and my apologies for not getting back to you, sooner. I am the least “tech” type on earth, so much of what you suggested above is beyond my comprehension. I did go to the Plug-ins section on WordPress and deactivated most, if not all of them. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, though. Was I supposed to deactivate them and then, go click on “Add New” while they were still deactivated? Also, is there a specific plug-in that relates directly to the “Add New” link?

You wrote, “switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.” My apologies but I don’t have a clue what any of this means or how to follow up on it.

You then wrote, ” resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).” Again, my apologies for my lack of knowledge but I don’t know what any of this means or how to follow up on it.

Can you help an untechnical layperson (I’m just a writer, wish I knew tech better) with this stuff?

    Scott
