Hi! We would like to add more lines to the heading of an event. Currently, there is Title and Subtitle. I looked at Custom Fields and it doesn’t look like any of them would appear in the header area…I think they are geared for the body of the event. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thank you!

  • Hi @wavewatcher

Try putting an HTML line break tag (</br>) where you’d like to create a new line in your title or sub-title fields, may do the trick.

    Ex:
This is my first line. </br> This is the my second line

    Hi aakash8 –

thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the title and subtitle in the event text area…just the body of the event. This is the page https://www.anandatexas.org/event/hope-for-a-better-world/ I am wanting to add something to the area where it says “Courage in the Face of Change” in the banner.

Where you meaning to do it somehow through CSS?

Hi @wavewatcher, thanks for providing more information here. I investigated the URL you provided. Our plugin does not provide subtitles, and I suspect it is added by a third-party plugin or via theme.

I’m curious about where are you updating the subtitle, could you provide me with what theme and third-party plugin as well? I’d like to replicate and see what we can do here.

Looking forward to helping you with this one.

    Best,

    Hey Abz!

I installed ScreenRec (I am on Linux) and was able to capture a screen shot for you. The link is here

We are using a child of X theme and I can’t see that any other of the plugins we have installed could be affecting this. I have another site that uses your plug-in and a different theme and see that we only have title and not subtitle, so maybe it is just the theme?

Curious if you have any other thoughts around this.

    Thanks!

Hi @wavewatcher, thanks for getting back to me here. Yes, perhaps it could be from the theme, out of the box our plugin doesn’t have a subtitle field. It would be good if you could do the testing for conflicts. To make sure that it is not from another plugin as well.

Could you try deactivating all other plugins except for our plugins to see if that makes a difference? Moreover, could you switch to the default theme? Please read the Testing for Conflicts article before doing anything. We’d recommend conducting these tests on a Staging Server. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/testing-for-conflicts/

Let me know how it goes on your end. I’d be glad to help you out further with this one.

    Hi Abz –
thanks for the quick reply. I am a little confused as we are not having any problems, per se. I am just trying to figure out how to add more lines to the banner area. I don’t see this as a plug-in conflict issue. Do you possibly know how I could add more lines to the Event Title? That might help me figure out options.

Hi @wavewatcher, no worries we’re here to help. Apologies for the confusion. The testing for conflicts should help figure out which plugin is adding the extra field which is the subtitle, out of the box we do not have a field for it.

Do you possibly know how I could add more lines to the Event Title? That might help me figure out options.

Good question. We only use the default title in WordPress for our events, similar to the behavior of Pages/Posts which doesn’t allow multiple lines.

I did some digging and there are third-party plugins that should be able to split the title, you could perhaps test it out and see if it works on your end. https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-split-post-or-page-title-in-wordpress/

Please note that we’re not associated with the plugin. I’m just trying to help you further if that’s what you’re trying to accomplish.

    Have a great week ahead.

    Hi @wavewatcher

You mentioned “I am wanting to add something to the area where it says ‘Courage in the Face of Change’ in the banner”. So you’d like to display additional text underneath it on the frontend? If not, can you please explain your goal?

I know I already suggested this, but does inputting a <br> where you want the line break do the trick? Like this:
Courage in the Face of Change<br> Second line underneath

Also, can you please link to the page?

    Hi aakash8 –

holy crikey! You had suggested this at the beginning and I dismissed it because I didn’t have access to the html through text editor. This did it! Thank you!!

And thank you for repeating it again. I apologize for dismissing your response the first time.
