Sorry to be so irritated by this but my goodness. I’ve had the new WordPress 3.5 update since the day it showed up on my dashboard. I love the new media manager WHEN IT WORKS. It’s not my theme, it’s not my plugins, it’s not my cache, or cookies, or any of those things. It’s just plain freakin annoying to be smack in the middle of a blog post and the “add media” button work fine one minute and then next thing I know it’s not working at all and hasn’t been for the past couple of hours.

It’s been a month right since the update? You’d think with as many people that are complaining of this issue it would be fixed by now.

Seriously if someone has any suggestions besides the ones I listed above please let me know. I am a photographer so media is kinda a big part of my blog.

  • I’ve not seen anyone complaining of intermittent errors. The usual complaints are that the Media functionality isn’t working at all in one way or another – which is usually a theme/plugin/server problem. But intermittent? That’s a new one for me.

How exactly did you rule out your theme and plugins?

Everything I have googled about it people are saying that it will work sometimes or they will think they’ve gotten it fixed but that the next time they try to use it it’s broken again.

I switched themes to see if that made a difference and I have turned all the plugins off and back on one by one. Doesn’t make a difference. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

    Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

yes I did switch themes, that didn’t help, I also tested the plugins by turning them all off and turning them all back on one at a time. still nothing. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. none of my plugins are inactive either.

Did you reset the plugins folder?

Agreed. The new media uploader is crap. Works 10% of the time. It just sits and runs and runs and runs and runs. It has nothing to do with plugins or themes or anything else.

I want the old one back.

    @jeffreysummers:

    1) that’s very helpful.

    2) It’s impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with an unrelated question of your own and it causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers. Please post your own topic.

It’s not unrelated and it’s not an interruption. In fact, it is exactly what photomom86 is talking about. What’s impolite is making anyone feel it’s their fault and not the fault of the software – as is the case here. What’s further impolite and downright inane, is to post to me about what your opinion is of my post – moderator or not. Ad hominem attacks are amateurish. I don’t really care what your opinion is. Either answer the original question or move on to one you can.

JeffreySummers, If you are having a problem, please post in your own topic the details and the volunteers will try to help you. If you just come into posts to say ‘Yeah, this sucks’ you are not helping anyone, so please don’t.

Either answer the original question or move on to one you can.

Same to you ?? Answer the question and help, offer more information that can help people debug, or do something construction, if you can please. We’d appreciate that.

    Now back ON topic.

It’s not my theme, it’s not my plugins, it’s not my cache, or cookies, or any of those things.

Given you say you can reproduce this ‘sometimes’ error with and without all plugins and themes, I wonder if it’s a server config error.

Can you install a second, clean, version of WP, with no extra plugins or themes, and reproduce it there?

But intermittent? That’s a new one for me.

    Yeah, I totally agree, esmi.
@photomom86: Before trying Ipstenu’s approach, which makes a lot of sense, did you try esmi’s suggestion of resetting the plugins folder? I think her idea went unnoticed given the interruptions that followed, and it would be quicker and easier to try, IMHO. If that doesn’t work, then reproducing the error would really help us nail its causes.
    Good luck!

That is indeed new and weird.

Email me your blog’s information. I’ll log in and take a look at it for you, see if I can figure out the problem, and try to solve it. This isn’t something I’ve heard of before now, so I’d like to know why you’re having issues.
