    Hi Team,

    It’s me again ??
As told in my other topic about Booking system, I’m trying to get rid of some of my plugins to ligthen my website and reorganise my pages, posts, categories, etc.

In order to do that, I was wondering if you plan on adding Ajax load to Category selection in the Add listing forms.

One of the type of posts my users can post from front-end requires a lot of categories and subcategories. Right now I don’t use your plugin to do that because they would have to go through more than 600 categories and subcategories by hand to find the two that fit their post and select both the category and subcategory. A lot of mistakes could happen in the process, which would completely mess up my pages organisation, not mentioning it would be a waste of time for everybody.

Ajax load would allow to first select the main category then a second selection would open for the sub-categories.

Not only talking about my specific needs, I know you already use Ajax to save the draft when posting so I think it would be a great add to your plugin for people who have many categories to choose from.

    Thanks for reading me!

    Hi @vinem,

We don’t currently have plans for that, our current selector has a search system which should make it easier to find, is that not enough?

    Thanks,

    Hi Stiofan,

Unfortunately, as I was saying, with the search system, a lot of mistakes can happen in the process.
I need the users to select both the main category and the subcategory so I can display all the subcategories from the main category on a page using AZ Listing.
When people don’t find the subcategory they want, they have to select ‘other’, then type the name in a text field so I can add it manually and move their post into it (they’re lists of movies, TV shows, etc for Cosplays and other types of costumes so I add them progressively when they’re not already created).

I’m worried that with the search system they will forget to select both the main category and the subcategory or search for ‘other’ and don’t select the one from the right main category, etc and it will be a mess in my posts and pages and a waste of time for me if I have to check all the time to correct the errors and modify or move posts here and there.

I could add a warning but still, I find it very counter-intuitive for my users to proceed that way and not everyone reads carefully…

Not really sure what to do here, I will think about it further before deciding anything.

    Thanks for your response,
    Virginie

How many MAIN parent categories do you have? Have you tried the checkbox category input?

The worst case scenario is that if you can’t make our default system work then you could pay a dev to create something custom, our system is very dev-friendly.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

For this particular CPT I have 16 main categories.
The main categories are Movies, Disney, Larp, etc, and the subcategories are the titles so they group all the posts posted by the users.
    Like :
    Movies
    – Avengers
    – Harry Potter
    – etc

    Disney
    – Frozen
    – Mulan
    -etc

And so on for the 16 main categories.

Then, with AZ Listing, each main category has a page where I display all the subcategories. But AZ Listing needs the main category to know what subcat to display on the said pages, that’s why I need the users to select both main and sub, otherwise their posts won’t be displayed through the AZ list.

The system is already in place using WP User Frontend, my question was mainly about getting rid of it to use your plugin to replace it to save some space and money. But I guess I’m stuck with it!

    Thank you again Stiofan,
    Virginie
