None of my existing pictures are showing up in the media area, but they are on the web page.
I can’t add in a link in the WP editor.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

  • Hey pregwebwp,

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and then see if the problem still exists.

If issue still exists, also try switching to one of the default theme (2014,2015,2016)

If that doesn’t work, we probably need a bit more information, i.e. what theme are you using? When did this problem start? etc

    Good Luck

Can I do this within the editor by deactivating the plugins or do I need to sign into the CPanel?
When I look at the site online, the photos and links are there. They don’t show up in the editor. It is so strange.
The Theme I have was created by a developer so I have no flexibility with it, unfortunately. Also the developer designed a plugin of his own and I don’t know what it is for.
The problem started just this week.
A few weeks ago, I added in the Forget Shortcode plugin so I can create buttons on the site. When I first started using it I had no problems.
I will take your suggestion and start deactivating all the plugins and see where that takes me. I will post again after that is done.
Thank you for responding to my question.

    Hi pregwebwp,

No you do not need to sign in into CPanel.

Before you deactivate the plugin, can you let me know where you are looking for Media Refer https://goo.gl/oTia8c

    Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me.
I went in and began deactivating each plugin, one at a time.
I found that the “All in One SEO” seems to cause an issue for my links and I don’t know why. I have kept it deactivated and the link editor is now working.
As for the media files, apparently, when you click the box that says:
“Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders.” I am assuming this is where my photos are.
But, how do I get them back so I can view and use them for my site for other pages, etc?
    Thanks

PS I cant upload anything to the media library at all

    Hey pregwebwp,

    Where you are seeing this

“Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders.”

    ?
In Settings-> Media https://goo.gl/hRz1QC or on clicking media https://goo.gl/oTia8c ?

If you are seeing this in Settings->Media, then it’s normal.
Please also try to switch to default theme and check if you can see upload and upload media.

If this also does not work, check your wp-content/uploads folder permission, it should be 755 or 777 refer this https://ideasandpixels.com/wordpress-media-library-not-working-solution

    Thanks

    Hi Juhi,
I wanted to update you on my progress.
If we compose and new post or page, or edit an existing post/page, the Media Library will pop up and we can edit or insert a new pic.
However, when you click on the Media Library in the Dashboard sidebar it is still empty. (It doesn’t look like the screen shot you sent me.)
I did check the Cpanel and 755 was listed as the numeric setting.
Thank you for the link/article, it was very informative.
    The mystery still continues.

    Hey pregwebwp,

Sorry that it still didn’t get solved.

Please also try to deactivate all plugins at once, Perhaps it’s a conflict between two of any, and by only deactivating one at a time, you missed that cause.

    Thanks

I wanted to follow up here:
I did try to deactivate all the plugins and nothing happened.
As I said before this theme was created by a developer for our site.
I had no access to any media including the meta slider.
The developer said there were mce errors in the console. He recompiled a file from the core and add a new line of code and now it is working.
We still don’t know what really happened and if this temporary fix will hold.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate your taking the time to help me.

I hope it will not happen again :).

If your question has been answered, we would love if you would mark this topic as resolved in the right hand sidebar. This helps our volunteers find the topics that still need attention and more people will get helped, possibly like you did.
