Add headline images in posts plugin? (not replacing post title text)

Is there a plugin that can help automate the process of adding ‘headline’ images to a post? For instance checkout https://www.freelanceswitch.com https://quommunication.com/demo/news/

I want to be able to have a list of posts and use images in them on the home page like freelanceswitch and constrain them to a certain size. I know I can probably wind up doing this with CSS alone but wondering if there is something special to how some of the people do this. Thanks
