Is it necessary to add a Google captcha to Woocommerce checkout? I’ve not made an ecommerce site before, but I have had spam subscriber issues on previous sites.

I would like to add one to the registration form – is there a free solution? I can only find a $30 extension on the Woo site.

Also is it possible, or necessary, to add a Captcha to guest checkout? I read one article with someone saying they had several spam orders that of course failed but still resulted in credit card fees.

    Hi there!

It is not necessary to add a Google captcha to a WooCommerce checkout page, but if that is something you wanted to add to your site, I would recommend this plugin here:
    https://woocommerce.com/products/recaptcha-for-woocommerce/

If you wanted a free version, there is the reCaptcha by BestWebSoft plugin as well. The plugin claims to work on contact forms as well as the registration form.

There is a nice description of a handful of Captcha options, which you can read over here:
    https://passwordprotectwp.com/top-5-woocommerce-captcha-plugins/

    I hope that helps!

Thanks Kyle! I suppose it isnt an issue with logged in customers, but what prevents spam orders if you have guest checkout enabled? I will checkout those links you sent!

That all depends on the site settings. If you have your site setup that anybody could register, bots would still be capable of registering, and placing an order.

The reCaptcha for WooCommerce plugin does have a feature to add the reCaptcha to guest checkout. Feel free to search the plugin repository, as well as the link I sent in my last message, for a free plugin that has the same capabilities. ??
