• There’s a number of posts that indicate that installing WordPress at GoDaddy.com requires one extra step. It seems we fall into the 1% of people who need to modify their ‘localhost’ to something else. I’ve commented about my success, as have many others:

Can I suggest that a caveat be added to wp-config.php along the following lines?

If you’re installing at GoDaddy, you’ll need to change ‘localhost’ to your hostname, it’ll look something like mysql23.secureserver.net. Failure to make this change might result in an error like ‘Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_bloginfo() in…’

That aside, I’m hugely impressed with WordPress – many thanks for producing such an excellent piece of software. I was up and running minutes later (after a minute of searching here – this has been one of the easiest debugging steps I’ve had to go through!).

    Cheers!
    Ian.

  • I have also seen that you need to do this if you use 1&1’s managed hosting solutions. I’m sure there are probably quite a few hosts who don’t actually let you use localhost as the MySQL server. Dreamhost is another one that pops into mind.
