Add Gallery Description Above Thumbnails

@orenstransitpage – It seems you are describing using a custom template which is a NextGEN Legacy idea. That is still supported in NextGEN Gallery but we do recommend you create a “new” template (and keep a back-up of it).

The NextGEN Legacy templates are stored here:
wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view

I would suggest using the “captions” template as your guide and simply save your custom template using the same file naming convention in the same location. Then choose the appropriate template from the drop-down in the IGW or reference it appropriately in your shortcode parameters as needed.

Looks like this is a problem again. I updated the plugin, the descriptions disappeared, I uploaded a new php file (see below) with the description command to the legacy folder, set the basic thumbnails to render the associated template in the legacy folder referenced above, and the descriptions are still not showing up. Any thoughts at this juncture? Thanks, in advance!

@orenstransitpage – Large blocks of code are best linked to in these forums, especially in cases where some of the code becomes obfuscated due to the forums filtering … please try a CloudUp, Gist, or something similar to share this code.
