Add footer widgets

    It would be great to have support for adding widgets to the footer of Eksell. Any chance that this could be added?

    Love the theme. ??

    Hi @philnick,

    Really glad you like it! I’m afraid I have no plans to add widget support to Eksell. Widgets are going to be made obsolete pretty soon by the changes coming with Full Site Editing and block areas, which will allow users to insert blocks into predefined areas of themes.

    It’s likely that I will add a block area the footer of Eksell once that feature has been added to WordPress Core, which will probably happen in either WordPress 5.8 (June) or 5.9 (December).

    Thanks @anlino! That makes sense. I’m excited to see what FSE brings to WordPress and how you can evolve the theme. Looking forward to seeing what’s next!

    Now that 5.8 is released, is there any way to add a block (e.g. text / call to action) to the footer of Eksell?

    That would be extremely useful
