Add date to description to avoid duplicate meta descriptions

Hello.
In one of my sites I don’t use the excerpt field, so, description is taken from the biggining of the content.
I’d would like to add the publication date at the biginning to avoid the “duplicated meta descriptions” in Google Webmasters Tools.
I tried to fill “Description Format:” with%date% %description%, but it didn’t work.
Can you help me? Thanks.
