Add Custom Field to “Write Post” page

    Hello all,

    I’m new to WordPress modification so please bear with me.

    I would like to modify the admin portion of WordPress. I need a field in the “Write Post” page that would allow me to input a URL. I need this URL stored in the database somehow. How would I add this text field to the form? Would I just manually manipulate the admin files or should I do this via a plug in? Some direction to a tutorial maybe would be greatly appreciated!
