Add Creation/Modified Dates to Pages

    Wordpress posts have the creation date included with them, but static pages don’t. How can I go about adding them? I know there are get_the_date() and the_date() functions in WP, but am not sure of the difference, nor am I certain which template file it should be added to.

    Also, if I want to put the last-modified date instead of creation date, which function should I use?
