    Hi @azizaqa,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have had this question multiple times but at this moment I do not have a good alternative for it. I can, however, make a new plugin to test the functionality. It will work a little bit different. Would you be interested in testing this?

    Kind regards,

    Jeroen Peters

I am still busy with this, the standard WordPress DB API looks like it’s not compatible with non-latin characters. I am sure there is a way to use it, but I am still testing this on my local machine

    Hi @azizaqa,

I have a version available for testing. Because it’s for testing, it’s a .zip file which you can download and install. It’s a different version of the current plugin.

It’s compatible with the export option for my currenct plugin (so you can export and import). The shortcode is almost the same, it’s [namedirectory_mb dir="1"].

This way you can switch your page to the plugin which supports multibyte characters (Chinese, Arabic, Nordic) and if it does not work you can switch back to the old one, because that’s still installed.

Do you want to help me test this? I can process your feedback too ??

    Kind regards,

    Jeroen Peters

    Hi @azizaqa,

thanks for your reply. I’m not sure if I understand correctly, did you mean “want” or “won’t”?
Are you still using my plugin? I’m sure I can add it pretty quickly in production.

    Hi @azizaqa,

    Hi @azizaqa,

You can download the zipfile at https://www.jeroenpeters.com/name-directory-mb.zip

You can install it in WordPress by uploading it in the admin screen for the plugins. It’s name is ‘Name Directory (Multibyte)’.

It’s compatible with the export option for my currenct plugin (so you can export and import). The shortcode is almost the same, it’s [namedirectory_mb dir=”1″].

So please go to your current Name Directory and export the Directory you want to show on your website.
Now go to the Name Directory Multibyte admin page and create a new directory where you import your just exported .csv file.

In the settings of the directory, please adjust “Show all letters on index ” to NO.
Now you can add new names which begin wich characters from non-latin characters.
Please share your feedback with me ??

    Kind regards,

    Jeroen Peters

    Hi @azizaqa,

    1. thanks for testing and providing your feedback! I am not sure if/how I can get a correct alphabetical order. It seems that PHP has a great lack of support there. In https://stackoverflow.com/questions/832709/natural-sorting-algorithm-in-php-with-support-for-unicode this is discussed, but as soon as I am home tonight I will check if I can think of some kind of fix
    2. the thing about S not showing seems to be a bit strange. is “Santayana” spelled with just Latin-characters?

    Thanks again!

    Kind regards,
