Add A Page That Doesn’t Appear In The Main Navigation Bar

  • I create a page via the page menu and say call it 2017-01, and i want to link to this page via a different page.

    But as soon as I say publish it will come on the menu bar.

    How can i remove it from the menu bar?

    I checked customize and then menu settings but the add to top level is not checked.
    So what can i do to resolve it.?

    Hi Martin,

    The setting you mention here will prevent it if, and only if, you are in fact using a custom menu.

    Pages will also be added to the menu automatically if you don’t have a custom menu set as your primary menu.

    Under Menus in the Customizer or in the Appearance ->Menus section in WP-Admin, is the box checked to set the menu as your primary? If not, that will explain it. Set the custom menu as your primary menu, and then only the items you explicitly add to it will be listed in the menu.

    Well the weird thing is when I check the menus list in the appearance / menus (select a menu) then the page i created is not in that list.

    I tried again, and just pressed pages, create new and did test with some text and then publish.
    And that page is again in the menu itself

    How to add pages without them to be added to the menu.

    Yes, I understand that, and the most likely reason is that your site is using the default menu, not the custom menu.

    Open the Customizer, and go to your menu there. Is the box next to “Primary Menu” checked?

    I don’t see any page called “2017-01” in the menu on that site. Here is what I see:
