• Dear all,
we have 100s of articles and some of them are really long – is there any way we can create adaptive read more slider for the single blog?
This should be done automatically and based on the screen size.
Any ideas will be much appreciated
    Thank you ??

  • It’s unclear what you mean by “adaptive read more slider.” It would help if you helped illustrate what you mean with examples from other websites.

    Oh sorry @leland

    well, I’ll try again…
There is a very long post

1st, there should be “read more”/”next page” added automatically – based on screen size – hence adaptive. — So for example on small iPhone 4 – the visible text will be only first 10 lines and than there will be 1-2-3-4 pages (depending on how long is the text).
—- the same text will have only 1-2 pages on desktop because more lines fits to the screen.

2nd, slider – going to page 2-3-4 etc by sliding the text… however, this is not as important as the 1st question.

Thanks a lot for any idea ??
PS: this means there will not be massive scroll down on long articles ??

Okay, I understand what you mean now.

If you want to break down long posts into pages, you can use the <!–nextpage–> tag. Hopefully your theme supports wp_link_pages.

Making that “adaptive” based on screen width would require additional custom programming that I won’t elaborate on, because I believe that any type of article pagination results in an awful user experience.

    Thank you very much Leland,
I love your honesty “I won’t elaborate on, because I believe that any type of article pagination results in an awful user experience.” … made me laugh (in a good way)… however, I respect it and will think about it and read the article on the link you sent.
Thank you for your time ??
PS: we need that because some of the articles have up to 30 pages… so, you can imagine how looooog they are… worst than pagination ??

I appreciate that. I do like to provide pragmatic advice, even if it means not answering the original question directly. I’m glad you didn’t take it the wrong way. ??

It sounds like the articles are really long. So long that it might be difficult for the reader to find a stopping place. In that case, I suppose it would be all right to use <!--nextpage--> tags to break them up into smaller chunks.

However, it would be best if this wasn’t “adaptive” at all. Consider if somebody bookmarks one page on a desktop, and wants to keep reading on a mobile phone. If the page numbers were variable depending on screen width, it would make more complicated for the reader to pick up where they left off.

    Hope this makes sense!

Absolutely Leland, or should I write Legend? ??

You are right… I just red the article you suggested and you changed my idea and I think it’s a good thing.

    Thank you very much
    Have a great day :))

PS: you also encourage me to post other question ??
