Ad rotation not working

First, it’s a bad idea to use one Ads Place for all slots of Ads Block. Initially, during development, it was assumed that each slot of Ads Block will display it’s own Ads Place and thus will ensure the independent rotation of ads in the block.

Secondly. Due to the need to support of caching plugins, has been slightly changed the conception of the rotation algorithm of ads in Ads Place. As a result, the improper using of Ads Place, can lead to unpredictable results.

Minimus, thank you for your response. I didn’t realize that each slot in the Ads Block should display a separate Ads Place, but now that you’ve clarified that, it makes complete sense.

I made that change, and I also updated the plugin to version 2.1.77.

However, the rotation feature is still not working for me. It’s not just the Ads Block that’s giving me problems; rotation also isn’t working in the other two Ads Places that I’m using on my site (a leaderboard and a medium rectangle at the top of the sidebar). It appears to me that whichever ad is the one that’s listed first in an Ads Place is the only one that displays, unless there is a specific instruction for a different ad to display on a different page.

For example, I now have three ads in one of the Ads Block slots. Each of them is set for maximal activity, in rotation on all pages. However, when I look at the statistics for that Ads Place, all of the hits have been on one ad – the first one listed. And when I check various pages on the site myself, the only ad I see in that slot is the one that is getting all the hits.

I checked for conflicts with other plugins and came up empty. So I’m not sure what else to do.

Do you use caching?

I don’t use a caching plugin. This site is hosted on managed WordPress hosting, which includes “built-in” caching. I do have the ability to manually flush the cache, which I’ve done, but that hasn’t helped.

Also, the ad rotation was previously working on this site with this hosting configuration.

Try “Caching Compatible (Javascript)” Ad output mode. Turn on it on settings page of plugin…

I’m having the same issue as Brian007, which is why I started looking through the support thread rather than opening a new post.

I’ve manually cleared the cache on the site. and i’ve got it running in “Caching Compatible (Javascript)”

Unlike Brian, I had an add place for every place ads are displayed.

The issue happened when the plugin updated back on the first. I’ve tried updating everything, and still no dice. nothing is rotating.

Here is the system info on my install.

As you can see, the top left is the only one that rotates, and thats cause it’s provided by it’s own ad program.

So any new ideas?

Maybe, it means that you cache absolutly all files from wp-content folder. Try to exclude from caching sam-ajax-loader.php and sam-ajax.php files.

I set the plugin to Caching Compatible (Javascript) mode and the rotation now does seem to work, but the loading times are very slow. Are there any tweaks that would speed up the load times?

Meanwhile, I am contacting my hosting company about the possibility of excluding the two files you mention from the caching.

My hosting company looked into the suggestion of excluding the two files from caching but concluded that it wouldn’t work. Specifically, they told me that the sam-ajax files “appear to be POST requests, which by nature aren’t generally cached.” Since the JavaScript mode results in slow loading, I’m still looking for another solution.
