I consistently get an error message when trying to access the activity log saying, “ERROR Unexpected end of JSON input.”

I was getting the error on the main page’s Recent Activity log as well, but now that top five list shows. Yet the activity log page still kicks up the error.

Any help to get this resolved would be great. Thanks!

    Hello @lanetownsend,

Have you deleted anything in the website database directly? Such error can be generated by manual edit of the SiteGround Security log tables content. You can try to completely delete the two tables sgs_log_events and sgs_log_visitors and check the case again.

In case the issue persist, please update the thread with your website URL.

Thank you for your cooperation in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I dropped both tables you mentioned and the error has not returned. But I don’t believe any logging is taking place now. I don’t see the tables re-appearing, and the activity log is empty. I tried re-installing the plugin in-place, but the tables still haven’t returned. Did I miss a step?

Also on this installation, the “YOUR WORDPRESS NEEDS ATTENTION” update box persists even though there are not updates. Any hint to make it read accurately?

You can disable and re-enable the plugin, then open the website in incognito browser, so a regular visitor log is recorded.

Those actions are enough for the tables to be created and filled properly.

In case the issue persist, I suggest you to double-check the case on a server level – if there are any issues with your website database. You may need to optimize and repair it. Make sure there is enough space on the hosting server, so the tables can be created normally.

As for the “YOUR WORDPRESS NEEDS ATTENTION” box, you can click on update to verify what is being detected by the plugin. If there is a database or disc space issue it can be related to the checkbox not disappearing even if all updates are already done.

Well that did the trick. Logging is operational once again. The update box persists, but unless you would suggest otherwise, I’ll just leave it as is, yes? I have no other indication of a db error and we are not out of disk space.

    Thanks again!

I am glad to hear the Activity log error is resolved successfully now, @lanetownsend!

As for the update box, just double-check if there is anything available for an update under wp-admin/update-core.php URL. In case there isn’t – the update box should be automatically removed from the plugin dashboard – I have just tested this and it is no longer present after I updated all plugins/themes and WordPress core.

You can drop a quick review for the plugin if you have the time, that would be highly appreciated ??

    Best Regards,
    Elena
