I know you can get Active Directory to work with WP1.2 and 1.5 but they are outdated. Is there a way i can get it to work with 2.0.3? Please help me this is of vital importance.

  • What’s Active Directory?

    Definitions:
    https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3AActive+Directory&btnG=Google+Search

    Quoth the page:
“Active Directory (codename Cascade) is an implementation of LDAP directory services by Microsoft for use in Windows environments. Active Directory allows administrators to assign enterprise wide policies, deploy programs to many computers, and apply critical updates to an entire organization. Active Directory stores information about its users and can act in a similar manner to a phone book.”

That’s an abysmal definition, isn’t it?

Active Directory (AD) is the database in which Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 server-based networks keep user account details, amongst many other things.

Presumably you mean you want WordPress to use pass-through authentication for AD users? So that people logged on to a domain computer won’t have to log in again to WordPress?

Or was it something else? I’m restating the question in the hope that someone who can code will have an idea.

Yeah, something of that nature. If I can have wordpress loggin a member of the domain with the same creditionals that the person uses for AD, or the domain, I will be happy. The user of course needs to be of a certin group name.

    Why i need it:
WordPress is going to be the backend of my district’s website. Staff members will log into the system to update there pages for the word to view. (I have a problem of people editing pages that are not theres’.) Well, I can not be expected to keep two databases of Staff accounts (over 400) to have the exact same creditionals. I need the wordpress to use Active Directory’s database.

I need the wordpress to use Active Directory’s database.

… or WP using some other directory service that easily syncs with AD.

I’ll have to dig through my bookmarks. Seems like I recently saw something interesting along those lines.

Please, that would be most apreseated. Like I said, i found some but they are not 2.0.3 compatable.

LDAP will be the way, I suspect.

I see someone did write a plugin for 1.5, but there’s no update for 2.x that I’m aware of.

Ahhhh, a bit more googling. This looks like it might be a start:

Yup – Les beat me to it. The one at Kane was the one I’d recently stumbled over.

Looks like i was googleing for the wrong phrase. Thank you guys a lot. Any ideas about how to make users only be able to edit pages that belong to them?

Is that not WP default behaviour? I would imagine that users can only edit their own pages/posts…

No, users can only edit there own posts. However, anyone can edit pages. This is werid I agree. I can’t run a website with people editing each others pages. Then when one account gets hacked, have the hacker kill EVERY page on there.
