Activation Error – This activation link is expired or have already been used

Activation Message (This activation link is expired or have already been used) Appears when New or Re-Registered Users Attempt to Activate

Any suggestions or guidance about what’s happening and how to resolve?

Also, please note: I have no cache plugins installed.

Problem Description

If a User registers a new account (or re-registers after previous account is deleted), when the [Activate your account] link/button is clicked (within Email),
the following Error message is displayed, “This activation link is expired or have already been used.”

Subsequently, within WordPress >> Users page, the new (or registered) user’s status changes from, “Awaiting E-mail Confirmation” to “Approved”

Expected Behavior

New User Registrations (or user re-registration) Activation message (after clicking [Activate your account] should correctly display,
“Thank you for signing up!
Your account is now active.”

Repro Steps
——————-
1) Create a Test User
2) Go to: mydomain_wordpress/registration page
3) Complete Registration Form and click Register button
4) Thankyou for Registering page is displayed
5) Registration Confirmation and Activation (Please activate your account) email is sent
6) Go to WordPress >> Users and confirm that new Test User status shows, “Awaiting E-mail Confirmation”
7) Login into email associated with new Test User and locate “Please activate your account” email
8) Click “Activate your account” link / button
9) Note the Error message, “This activation link is expired or have already been used.” appears

Additional Details
——————–
– No Caching Plugins are installed (have never been installed)
– Fails on Firefox, Chrome and Opera
– Opera was a new and clean installation
– Deleting Browser Cache & Data on each does not resolve issue
– Clearing UM ‘User Cache’ – does not resolve issue
