• I’ve installed the Relevanssi plug in, activated it and built the index, saved, etc. But, it seems there is an additional step missing from the instructions. How do I get it to actually replace the default search tool? Everything looks the same whether or not the plug in is activated, leading me to believe the plugin is not actually engaged.

By the way, my motivation for installing Relevanssi is that the little magnifying glass in the default WP search tool did not work and I had to put in a sentence indicating that you have to hit return. (I am used to clicking the little magnifying glass when I search and assume others may be trying the same thing). It is not clear to me if the code for the box and magnifying glass icon is actually replaced by different code from the plugin, or if the plugin functionality is strictly on the back end.
    Thanks, Javier

It happens automatically. Relevanssi is strictly in the back end; the forms and the results template are the same, so if the form didn’t work the way you liked before, Relevanssi won’t fix that.

Make sure the magnifying glass icon is a submit button for the form.

If the results don’t change when you activate Relevanssi, it may be that Relevanssi is not able to take over the search. See this: https://www.relevanssi.com/knowledge-base/query_posts/
