I tried to find out what exactly means “content” but didn’t find anything accurate.

Can anyone please provide any clear definition of what is exactly meant by “content” when activating a new theme? We always have 2 options: adding content or replacing existing content. What happens here exactly with those 2 options (especially when working on an existing website with content in it and just want to replace the theme)?

And what is exactly “content” in a given theme? images, text in pages/posts, menus, titles… what exactly?

Thanks for any input or relevant link to the codex.

  • Content typically means “stuff” you add to a site – text, images, etc. I’m not sure what 2 options you are referring to – when you simply switch themes, it does not give you any options about content. Or are you talking about importing or exporting content?

    Thanks for this. You’re right.
Most of the time those options don’t appear. I think this was the case mainly with themes produced by “theme builders” like Artisteer that indeed allow you to add some content to the core theme.

Thanks for your input, will explore further.

Ah, I’ve never used those, so can’t say anything about how that works. You’d need to ask them about anything related to their themes.
