Activated maintenance mode but page remains visible

    I noticed that maintenance mode had gotten deactivated at some point, so I attempted to reactivate it. The switch indicates that it is activated (both in the settings page and in the toolbar), however the site remains visible on browsers including in incognito mode and on multiple devices.

    — Update: about an hour later, the maintenance screen has appeared. Is it normal that it takes some time to activate?

    Cache sometimes messes with things. if that happens again make sure you empty the cache in your WP caching plugin or in the hosting control panel and the change will be instant.
