    Extremely Urgent!

Yesterday I installed the Jetpack Plugin on my WordPress 3.5 site with the Karma theme latest version.

Installed fine, activated fine. The plugin instructed me to open a WordPress.com account to activate additional features. When I activated the wordpress.com account my site completely vanished. the only thing you see is the favicon on the browser tab and a blank page. When you inspect the page you see there is no code.

I cannot even access WordPress Admin Panel.

My site is hosted by Host Gator and I never had any intention of transferring my domain to WordPress. In all of what I read and selected during the creation of the WordPress.com account I never saw anything that indicated that was what I was doing.

I need my site back asap, as I have time to work on it now, but the time will be gone.

Will deactivate clear all of the settings for each plugin or will my settings still be there as a activate them again. Silly question it seems now that I’ve written it, all settings will be gone..right?

Will deactivate clear all of the settings for each plugin

In the vast majority of cases, no. Each plugin’s settings should be retained in your database.

    Ok, going in. Thanks.

Ok, it is back to default theme. Karma had 2 folders in the Themes directory “Karma” and “Karma-Style-Sheet”. Didn’t work at first, then I went in and changed the style sheet name to -old as well. Now at default theme.

So I’m left with a default theme, and my plugins all inactive. Was the changing the Theme just to deactivate the plugins? Should I uninstall Jetpack since it started the issue? The email suggested uploading Jetpack manually as the fix after deactivating everything. Do you agree? At what point can I turn my Karma Theme back on?

Was the changing the Theme just to deactivate the plugins?

No. The idea is to try and get the site back down to a known configuration and rule out as many possible factor/culprits as possible. Themes, can (and often do) cause all kinds of problems.

Now, is the site working again?

    (@dunnlw)

Yes, but I have no plugins active.

FYI – I had been running the Theme for quite some time without any issues, only when I activated Jetpack did I experience a problem.

    What next?

Would this approach work, as it would be much faster for me and give you one less thing to focus on.

    1. Activate my Theme again.
    2. Activate only the plugins I need one at a time and configure and check functionality.
    3. If and when it breaks again, follow the same process we just went through to bring it back to the default.

I would uninstall Jetpack first and attempt the manual installation as suggested by the support email.

Can/should I leave the old Karma folders listed as -old? If I activate the Karma Theme again will it create a new Karma folder in the directory?

I’d suggest checking the site after each and every re-activation of theme and plugins. I’d also suggest activating Jetpack first as it is a well tested, well maintained, plugin with a huge user base.

There’s also absolutely no reason why simply adding an API key would cause Jetpack to bring down the site. The very worst that should have happened (assuming the API key was incorrect) was that Jetpack would have rejected the key, displayed an error message and your site would have continued to work quite normally.

You say that you have had the Karma theme for some time? In my experience, I’d be looking at the theme as one of the most likely culprits here. It might be worth asking the theme’s developer when the theme was last updated via https://themeforest.net/user/TrueThemes

Thank you for your help. Have a good evening.

It keep happening to me as well. My site CrackerPie is having more than enough issues with Jetpack.

@sunnyn73 – have you asked the JetPack people about this? You can do so here:

Posing in someone else’s outdated thread isn’t the best place to get help with it.

Ohh, thanks for your flash like response I am going to contact them rightaway. I am not friendly to such quick response in WordPress Forums ??
