Action bar disappears even when left open

I have the action bar show up every single time on the homepage. I want to be able to minimize the bar, go to another page and when again come back to the homepage, have the minimized bar still minimized and not open again.
Basically I would like it to remember if it was left open or closed when user is back on the viewing page.
How can I do this please?
