    Hello all,

I seem to have accidentally clicked a wrong button on the updates page — I thought I was upgrading to 3.9.1 but the upgrade was actually made to 4.0-alpha.

So, two questions. First — will it be OK to just manually reinstall 3.9.1?

Second — as I don’t particularly object to being on the alpha program, I’m happy to let things stay as they are, but what will happen when 4.0 is released? Will WordPress put me back into only stable updates (which would be great) or will it keep me on the beta program?

    Thanks & best wishes,

    — Joe

  • This also happened to me! ??
I hit update now on the en_GB 3.9.1, the next thing I knew It tells me I am on 4.0, a dev version. “You are using a development version (4.0-alpha).”

    What are my options?

Cool! And responded to. Nice catch, people. ??

@freefally2k: Don’t worry about it. You are actually running 3.9.1. The en-GB package is mis-reporting the WP version.

    thank god for that! :p

So is it OK to leave an en-GB site ostensibly running 4.0 alpha and assume that it’ll get fixed with a later update? Or will it prevent updates to 3.9.x? What is the recommended course of action?

OK so it appears some things are broke…
When I try to “Add media” in the post page nothing happens when I click the button.
If I try anything from the Publish box (e.g. change the visibility, schedule date, or status) nothing happens.

I have cleared my cache in my browser, and used 2 different browsers too (IE 11 and Firefox). I get the same result in each browser.

    I figured out it’s a problem with a plug in (I think) ??

I’m now regularly getting email alerts from my website:

Hiya! Your site … has been updated automatically to WordPress 4.0-alpha-20140508.

Can I take this as being just a side-effect of the problem with the en-GB upgrade, or is my blog now genuinely updating to latest alpha versions?

I followed the instructions in this post and it looks like it may have solved the issue:
