• I got myself into a bind and have since gotten out, but I thought I’d post the pertinent info here since I happened upon the fix by chance.

My WP site is hosted at BlueHost. I installed with their “one click” install before ever going to the wordpress.com site. So when I filled out the settings page I put my domain which BlueHost hosts as the “wordpress address” and the “site” address, not knowing exactly what they are and what the difference is between them. I only had one address and it made sense to put that address in both locations, which it turnt out was the right thing to do. All good so far.

During the process of getting my WP site at BlueHost all tricked out I went over to wordpress.com and the forum site as well and registered. When I registered at wordpress.com they gave me WP installation there as well.

Today I was back over at wordpress.com again and I noted the WP hosted installation’s URL and returned to my BlueHost hosted WP install and put the WP hosted installation’s URL in the “WordPress Address” location, thinking that it somehow made the two sites work as one or had something to do with that “jetpack” feature. This time doing what seemed like the right thing was bad.

I then browsed away from my BlueHost hosted WP site and did some other stuff. When I returned to my site it was loading without any css. I figured I’d better log into the admin account and see what’s up. When I tried to log into my BlueHost hosted WP admin account it kept redirecting me to the WP hosted site’s admin login. So I had messed up the BlueHost hosted installation and I couldn’t get back in to fix it. Google to the rescue. That’s when I found this article https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/. I was able to use BlueHost’s sql editor and correct the database according to the article and all was good again.

Well I thought it was resolved but it’s not. I can log in now but only through [mydomain]/wp-login.php.

I used to log in through [mydomain]/wp-admin but if I point my browser there now it immediately redirects to this address https://[mydomain]/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F%5Bmydomain%5D%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

Is there still something broken? The site’s “site url” and “home” settings in wp_options in the sql database are correct.

I can get into the site but I’m concerned that there’s still something that’s not right.

    Thanks!
    Greg
