• Hi,

I accidentally navigated away from my post literally RIGHT before I was going to publish it. I really don’t want to have to rewrite it, as I was really happy with it, and it took almost two hours. I tried searching the forums here for a fix, but I’m new to wordpress, and my search yielded over 1,000 posts. I did find one that suggested going to the phpMyAdmin and finding evidence of the post. I *think* I did that, but I don’t know what to do from here. If this is really my post at all. HELP???

    Veronica

Sometimes, clicking the back button can get you back to the content. Sometimes. If WP did an autosave, you should find that under posts->All Posts and look at Drafts. (Or under Pages, if you were working on a page.)

I tried clicking back, but it didn’t work. And when I went to All Posts, there’s nothing under Drafts. Does that mean it’s gone? I can’t restore it from phpMyAdmin?

It’s gone. If you find some content in the database, copy/paste it into a new post — don’t try to do any fancy database manipulation. You’re more likely to trash your site than recover anything if you do.

Damn, really? Even though I found a thing that looks like it could be the post? Where would I look to find any content? Even if I can just copy and paste half of it, that would save me having to do the whole thing over. I thought WordPress autosaves?

WordPress does auto-save and should put the stuff in a draft. If you were editing an existing post, however, you’ll see “there is a newer, autosaved version” when you go to edit that post again. You can click that to recover the autosave.

I was writing a new post, but I don’t see any unpublished drafts anywhere.

    Then it’s gone…

::deep breath:: How do I set up auto-save so this doesn’t happen again?

It’s automatic. But never count on it… it seems to work best when you have nothing to lose. ??

Well, looks like I’m never writing a new post in WordPress again. I’ll just import from elsewhere.

    UGH. Thanks for your time.

As with any software, save early and save often.

I have other software that auto-saves every few seconds. I’ll just use that. Thanks though.
