• Hi,

I tried changing the WordPress Address in the blog options (by adding in /index.php), and now my site is messed up – it’s trying to find everything at the wrong addresses, and when I try to change it back it says I need to enable sending referrers.

When I searched for solutions to this problem, it said to go into the database itself and change it, a solution which I’m aware of and would have done…if I could. However, the site I’m currently working on is hosted by my university, and I don’t have direct access to phpMyAdmin or anything of the sort. I can only write to the databases in the manner that installs the WordPress and SMF software. I do know who could possibly make the change for me, however it seems that they’re gone for the summer.

Can anyone suggest another possible workaround?

    Thanks

  • You could try going direct to the settings page at https://www.yoursite.com/blog/wordpress/wp-admin/options-general.php

Obviously you’ll need to change that (up to wp-admin) to match your site

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, that’s where I’m currently trying to change it from, and clicking “Update Options” gives me a message saying to enable sending referrers (which following the instructions to doesn’t do anything either).

Do I have any other options? Or do I have to wait until someone with access to the database is back in sometime in August?

Thanks. Unfortunately, I knew of that solution and would have used it…except I don’t have direct access to phpMyAdmin from my host (which is my university). I can’t go in and edit what’s in the database unless it’s done through PHP (e.g., a WordPress installation).

So I can’t 1.) edit it by accessing the options-general.php file directly because it won’t let me past the “enable sending referrers” message, and I can’t 2.) edit it through phpMyAdmin or any other type of MySQL interface at the moment.

Is there any type of file I can access that can help me make the change through PHP? Like the options-general.php page, except one that will let me get through? Or, if there’s a way I can get past the “enable sending referrers” page other than trying the suggestions on the page linked to by that error message?

Could you install another version of phpmyadmin on your hosting?

With 2.2, you can make a small change in your wp-config.php to sort this out (I believe).
