• So my situation is..

I’m working to re-brand my company’s website which was created using wordpress along with a custom theme. It is also a registered, active website.

I have already installed wordpress, a FTP client, created a database, and can already access the wordpress dashboard for the company website.

My objective is to upload a new re-branded theme for the company website to optimize data input for employees and make visuals more aesthetic. However for me to do this do i have to have access to the web severs established by the original developer of the website?

    or can i install/download the existing website’s code/files?

    Kind regards,

    Mo

  • You can make the changes directly in the back end of WordPress or you can Backup the site and database using a plugin Like Akeeba Backup (https://akeebabackup.com)
    or similar.

You would then need to install a hosting Server on your machine like WAMP, XAMP, MAMP. This installs Apache, mySQL and PHP onto your machine so WordPress can run.

You then restore the backup of your site on your local machine and make your changes.

Then reverse the process to upload back to live server.
