• I am new to WP. I got WP for dummies and can navigate easily within the wordpress panels (the site was created already by someone else who is now MIA and I’ve been given the task of figuring out how to make updates and changes…).

Where I am confused and can’t find information on is the whole php, MySql server aspect of the site. I can acess the directory files on the server, but then what, how do the server and the website connect?

For example…I wanted to add a plug in and I have to upload to the server first and then activate it on the site. How do I do that?

The server accept requests for a page on your site. It processes the .php files which create .html that the server then sends to the requesting browser. In a nutshell…

Almost everything you want to touch is in wp-content. Your plugins are in wp-content/plugins and your themes are in wp-content/themes. Upload the unzipped plugin folder to the plugins directory and it should become visible on the plugin management screen. Same with themes.

ok, so here’s a question. On the server there are about 200 photos (jpeg images) that I want to load into a gallery page on the site. How do I get the photos from the server to the gallery?

Thank you, that does help some what.

But I still don’t understand how I access my files from the server. When I go into a post and try to upload an image, how do I then chose an image from the directory files. How do I find htem to get them over to the post? Do I have to download them?

I also uploaded a new theme to the directory files and it does not show up on the dashboard. I am using filezilla.

There must be a process I am missing on how to access the directory files from the site.
