We have had an accessibility review undertaken and this is one finding:

“When a user first enters the website, they are presented with a cookie information popup. Most users may want to confirm their cookie preferences before continuing on with their journey. Because of this it is good practice to have cookie banners be first in the tab order of a page while they are present. The cookie popup on the website is presented last in the page tab order, meaning a user must move through all content first before they can make their selection.”

When the cookie bar is set to top of the page, the focus order is still last on the page.

Effectively what this means is a keyboard user has to tab through every link on the page to get to the cookie bar. This is not ideal for people who are unable to use a mouse or rely on screen readers.

    Hi @bkno,

    Greetings from CookieYes!

We have been working on adding accessibility enhancements to the plugin for a long time. With the introduction of our revamped?plugin, the banner?now satisfies many of the WCAG requirements. Since many of our current customers’ configurations would be affected by this extensive redesign, we have untouched the code and user interface for legacy plugin users. However, WordPress will make the new plugin (revamped) available to newer websites.

Please consider switching to our revamped?plugin if you don’t mind losing your plugin?configuration, and it won’t be too difficult for you to set it up from scratch. Go to the advanced tab of the plugin settings and click “Delete Settings and Reset” to change the interface. This will automatically transition your plugin’s code and interface to the revamped?version.

Thank you – I have reset the settings and the new version addresses this issue.
