We are progressively working towards full WCAG and W3C compliance.

A little.

The problem is that when we use the map the marker icon doesn’t have an alt or the hole map doesn’t have an alt (as i mentioned above). That’s why we get errors with achecker or WAVE tools for testing accessibility

Are you using the OpenLayers engine or Google Maps?

It’s WP Google Maps plugin with an extra plugin “API Key for Google maps”.

We can certainly add alt attributes to those elements.

Would it be appropriate for your users if we were to set this to the marker address?

What do you mean?

We just want to be ok with the accessibility WCAG 2.0
So i suppose you have to modify the plugin code.
We have more websites with the same issue.

Any news about the alt attributes?

My apologies for the delay in responding.

We have added a blank alt attribute to the img element for OpenLayers markers, in keeping with the WCAG best practises.

We will be getting a patch out with this in the next few days (next Monday at the latest), if you need a pre-release please just let us know and I will arrange that.

Alternatively, you could add that attribute in /wp-google-maps/js/v8/open-layers/ol-marker.js and do the same in the combined file at /wp-google-maps/js/v8/wp-google-maps.combined.js. If you are running the Pro add on you will need to do the same for the combined Pro file.

Yes there is, the OpenLayers engine uses a HTML element to display the marker. The Google Maps engine draws the marker through a canvas, so no image elements are involved.

I’m using OpenLayers at my end as we speak, I don’t see any image element in the attribution. Are you referring to the text in the bottom right?

My apologies for the delay in responding, we only have minimal staff on over the weekends.

We have added a blank alt attribute to the marker image element, this patch will be going out shortly (in the next few hours).

Regarding the attribution, I don’t see any images inside this attribution at all. As far as I can see this is all plain HTML. If you’re seeing something different, could you please link us to the map page in question?
