    Hi,

I have a problem passing WCAG 2.0 validation when using coblocks gallery/lightbox on a website.

WAVE (web accessbility evaluation tool) shows that the lightbox buttons do not have labels and says that empty buttons are not permissable.

Please could you update your plugin to give interactive elements such as the lightbox buttons, gallery buttons, some kind of value that allows it to pass accessibility rules?

    WAVE shows the error as:

A <button> element is present that contains no text content (or alternative text), or an <input type=”submit”>, <input type=”button”>, or <input type=”reset”> has an empty or missing value attribute.

Also, the svg navigation images get flagged because they dont have alt text? Im a novice svg user here so any tips would be valuable. Could the containers for these be given an aria attribute?

    Kind Regards
    Paul

Hi @icwdigital, I’m here to assist.

For more context, can you please provide me with your website’s address so I could test this out myself?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi gdandrija,

I would rather not disclose the site if that is ok? I think the issue is with the lightbox element. Although lightbox is hidden with aria tags it fails validation.

    1. gallery lightbox buttons are ’empty’ or have no value text.
    2. lightbox/gallery navigation button images (svg) have no image alt text

The outcome of this is that on a page with three galleries the page shows 12 accessibility errors on validation.

I realise that the entire gallery lightbox is hidden with aria but is that really needed. Could the plugin not use an accessible lightbox rather than hide it?

Would love to hear your feedback.

    Kind Regards
    Paul

Hi @icwdigital, thank you for the update.

It is ok if you are not willing to provide us with a link to your website. The reason why I asked is the fact we need to replicate the issue ourselves so we could work on it.

That being said, there are other ways we may troubleshoot the issue, but will need a bit more help:

    1) If you are not willing to send us your website’s address, would you prefer to send us a temporary test link instead: For this, you can use the following free online tool:
https://hosts.cx/ This is, once again, fully up to you.

    2) How did you conduct your tests, did you use some online platform? If yes, a link to the platform would be much appreciated.

This info is needed so our development team could have the information needed to fix the issue. Sorry if I ask for too much.

Thanks in advance, have a nice day,
    Andrija

    Hi Andrija,

    Many thanks for your response.

The accessibility test was carried out using https://wave.webaim.org

I have created a temporary url for a page containing the accessibility failures that I have explained in the previous posts above. This link will expire in 5 days. https://www.temporary-url.com/6260F

You will see that for every coblocks lightbox on the page there are a host of accessbility failures for missing alt tags for the button images and also the lightbox navigation buttons are considered ’empty’. I will let you run your own test with webaim.org so you can reproduce. When the lightbox option is disabled in the block, the errors go away.

    Kind Regards
    Paul

    Hi @icwdigital,

Thank you for the update and the info provided. I was able to replicate your issue and recreate it in a test environment as well.

That being said, I informed our developers about the issue so it could be fixed in one of our next updates. You can check the progress on the link below:

Thank you for reporting this, have a nice day,
    Andrija
