Accessibility fix suggestion
-
Hello, I am blind and so am using a screen reader to access WordPress. I started using WordPress two or three months ago and WordPress 3.3.1 was very accessible. However, 3.3.2 has broken a lot of the accessibility on the dashboard. I think this might be to do with the new ‘fly out’ menus. I can’t access about 75% of the links. Certain screen readers aren’t reading the links at the top of the screen.
What I am suggesting is a basic HTML version of the dashboard for people using screen readers. Would anyone be interested in doing this? I propose that there is then a link addedd at the top of the screen that is called something like “basic HTML version. screen reader users click here”. The link should obviously be a standard link, not an image link so as to avoid any problems.
I tried pasting my WordPress dashboard into Microsoft Word and weirdly, I got access to all the links that I couldn’t access in Internet Explorer. I have since created a very rudimentary HTML file so that I am able to access WordPress myself, but this is not an HTML version of the live dashboard (which is what I am proposing), it is merely a static HTML file.
Thanks for your attention.
