Urrgh! I can’t believe this is happening. So, I bought and registered a domain name and set up hosting through GoDaddy, and I bought a theme through Thematics. I ftp’d the wp special theme to my test site (www.ramonasrefashions.com/wordpresstest) via filezilla and did some tweaking, closed the windows, went to bed, woke up only to find that i can’t access the admin part of my website anymore. I believe that this is a problem with GoDaddy but they’re not being very helpful and the error mssg i keep getting suggests that they don’t want to bother themselves with this stuff. Here’s the error mssg that I got 10 minutes ago: Error establishing a database connection. This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we we can’t contact the database server at ramXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down. You might want to try wordpress forums. Here’s the error mssg i get now: Error establishing a database connection. I have found GoDaddy to be very user UNfriendly and frustrating. Any suggestions? Should I just move to a different host or is this common everywhere (so frustrated).

  • GoDaddy has some special way of doing the config.php file that is in the root directory. You’ll want to check the wp-config.php file and confirm that each of the four required fields are entered correctly. GoDaddy had some more information about setting up a WordPress config file in their Help Center:

Google NoDaddy and you’ll find lots of people equally unhappy with GoDaddy hosting.

They’re OK for cheap domain names but not for hosting!

I’m with Hostgator and have found their Live Chat ultra-helpful. I’m a writer not a webmaster, really. I was nervous about transferring my sites from my old host and they just said “don’t worry, we’ll do it all for you”!! Great service.

Thanks to you both. I’ve read that article more than once and followed all instructions and didn’t work. I think GoDaddy is built by computer ppl and not for non comp geeks. I’m stuck waiting for GoDaddy to get back to me. I can see this taking a few days to fix. Oh well…

dorothy1508 I understand you were dissattistifed but many people have wordpress blogs on GoDaddy.

Same as above. They do the config.php a little different than others but many people are happy with them.
