Access of WP from www via dyndns fails
-
Environment:
Windows XP SP3
Apache 2.2.3 (win32)
PHP 5.2.0
MySQL 5.0.27-community-nt-log via tcp/ipI am running a single windows PC which runs all the above LAMP stack. I use this as a development/test machine for web site development.
I have the Hosts file setup to point the site names back to localhost127.0.0.1 site1.me.com
127.0.0.1 site2.me.com etc so that I can use sensible urls from the browser.Apache is setup with multiple VirtualHosts one for each site I am maintaining/developing so that I can have one htdocs directory per development.
In order that clients can view/test/signoff developments prior to copying to the live hosted server I also use DYNDNS to point people outside my network to this PC (my server for want of another word) complete with belkin virtual server settings.
This all works great for everything I have developed myself eg my html and php developments.
I have just installed wordpress into one of these VirtualHosts and all appeared to be great, easy in fact. I applied a theme and other setup type functions from the admin and added a few sample posts and pages. However, when I attempt to access wordpress from a pc external to my network. From the internet it will not load wordpress and I get a 301 error in the apache logs. I have tried the page links that work internally and also a direct url keyed into the browser address (https://site1.me.com/blog) with and without the index.php extension.
I installed wordpress from my internal network i.e. copied the source to a sub dir of the VirtualHosts htdocs dir called “blog” and then ran the install, all completed without problems (could not be simpler, thank you).
I have an idea that where you install wp from has something to do with this problem, in other words if I had run the install from an external pc using the dyndns address rather than the internal address it would be accessable from all www address’s but probably not from my internal address.
The “WordPress address (URL)” and the “Blog address (URL)” both contain references to my internal site name https://site1.me.com/blog and not the dyndns address https://nnn.dyndns.net name. Is this the problem? If anybody can understand what I have just said, is there a solution to my problem that will allow me to access wp from both inside and outside of my local network in the same way.
Thanks
