Hello, I am building a new site with a new associate id (which was created in my affiliate account). I downloaded the Amazon Associates Link Builder and tried to set the credentials. First, I used the Access Id from my other site, but when I went to access the secret key, the message said that I cannot retrieve my key. It forced me to create a new Access Id and key, which I did. I still get the message:

Your AccessKey Id is not registered for Product Advertising API

How is this possible when I created the id through the API system?

The forums tell me to create a secondary user. I am the primary user, so am I a secondary user in my new site?

I also tried using my other amazon associate id, but still, I get this same message.

I am being sent in circles. The amazon api directions tell me how to access my secret key. I follow them to the link that says, “You can’t get there from here”.

I am not a developer, but this seems unnecessarily complicated.

I sent an email to the plugin developer, but no response. I see people on this forum who posted months ago and there is still no answer.

    Dear @jesaminem,

Sincere apologies for the trouble faced by you. Please try out the following:

    • Using your access key & secret key credentials, please check if you can get results from ItemSearchAPI on Product Advertising API scratch(PA-API) pad. (Don’t forget to set the marketplace at the top to the one you are registered as an associate.).
    • If above gives an error message, follow the troubleshooting procedure link in the error message shown on PA-API scratch-pad.

Do share your results and feel free to reach out to us if you are not able to follow anything and we will be happy to help you.

Hello. Thanks for responding. I finally figured out what happened. I went into my Security Credentials from the Console (ignored the “get started with IAM”). I went back into the Access Keys section and realized that I had an active Access Key that had N/A in all of the cells. I made that inactive and deleted it. Once I did that, I created a new key (for the 3rd time) and generated my secret key. This time, I saved it so I could retrieve it if I need to. I entered it into the plugin settings and now it worked.

I remember seeing somewhere in the sea of posts I read on the topic that we can only have two IDs active. Even though the other one had never been used, it was hanging up my credentials. The problem for me was that I could create the ID/secret key despite that. An error message saying, “you must remove one id before creating another” would have saved me hours of time. OH well, live and learn.

    All the best,
