Absolutely necessity

This plugin replaces what I have been writing myself for many years. Obviously with much greater flexibility and well written source than anything I ever created.

It is a great tool if you’re developing a site on a different framework, but want to continue to give clients a super easy platform to manage their content. I also use it for implementing complex AJAX driven websites.

I hope that someday this becomes part of the core WordPress build.
