I notice that, at least in the block editor, when I insert a page from the media library, it uses an absolute rather than relative path. (In other words, the path starts with https, the domain name, etc.) I need to “edit with html” to fix that, in order to have image paths that won’t break, for example if the domain name of the site changes.

Wouldn’t it be better to default to using relative paths? Or am I missing something?

Yes, that’s how WP works. It’s been discussed a number of times; there’s no developer support for relative paths.

Thanks for letting me know that @sterndata. Just for my clarification, by “no developer support” do you mean that the core developers don’t want to implement it, don’t think it’s a good idea, or is it something or someone else you’re talking about?

Is there any publicly available discussion that you can point me to?

    Thanks again,

    Mike

The discussion is somewhere on core.trac.www.remarpro.com, but my searching isn’t finding the right ticket at the moment. There are plugins, however, that support relative links. Search the plugin repo.

No need for a plugin, you can easily just edit it. Thanks for trying to find the refs. I appreciate it. I’ll let it go now ??
