• Right, I’m seriously stuck with downloading WordPress. I have zero knowledge of developer language so please can someone shed some light on the process because I’m totally lost. So far, while trying to set up WordPress, i’ve done the following:

    1. Download MAMP and follow youtube instructions to set up MySQL username, password and database

    2. Purchase domain name from Bluehost

    3. Downloaded CyberDuck because the WordPress guide recommended it (?)

    3. Unable to access backend of WordPress or any element of the site. I copy and pasted the link which worked yesterday, but today i’ve got a ‘failed to open page’ – the link i used was:
    https://www.localhost.com:8888/wp-admin/about.php

If anyone can help, I’d like to know which programmes i need to download (i.e., are all the above needed) and what I’ve done wrong. In layman terms if possible. If there is an idiots’ guide to terminology and downloading steps that i could be pointed in the direction of, i’d also be very grateful!

    Thanks in advance!

  • I’d guess your right URL is:

    https://localhost:8888/wp-admin/about.php
    or https://localhost/wp-admin/about.php

The main problem is the “.com”, local servers don’t have top level domains.

Note that if you want to run your website on a domain by Bluehost you have to do several additional steps. localhost servers are only in your local wifi network.

Thanks Felix. Would you recommend i stay with Bluehost, or are there problems with the additional steps?

No, you need these steps with every hosts I meant ?? . I don’t know anything about Bluehost exactly :D.
    Did the URL work?

Do you want to use wordpress locally or online as you buy domain from blueshost. its easy to setup online and have powerful admin features. you can easily setup your site.

I can’t seem to live preview any of the templates I’d like to use…..it keeps asking me to sign in again and when I do, it immediately signs me out.

@yamini7; make sure that both URLs in settings are the same and correct ones; even https://www.domain.com vs domain.com will keep killing your session. You could also try and reinstall WordPress core files, disable any resent plugins that you installed when this preview issue started to happen. Disable one by one and try preview after each one, to narrow down.

Let us know how that goes so far. Is this local install or host provider install?

    Thank you
