above the fold that doesn’t create problems with cls

well, the problem clearly is with the above-the-fold CSS, try generating it elsewhere maybe?

so just to clarify, i should clean the current css above the fold, empty auto optimize cache and wp-optimize
then run critical css
implement the new critical css that i got
empty again all cache

and then the CLS should be good?

Inline and Defer CSS

Well, there are 2 things actually:
1. the criticalcss.com website, where -after registering & paying- you can generate above-the-fold CSS for any page you want and which you can past in “inline & defer”
2. the “critical css” tab in autoptimize, which integrates with criticalcss.com (so you’ll also need that account, but you’ll be using the API in that case) to automate the entire process, creating rules for different (type of) pages to ensure the correct CSS is inlined automatically.

ok, i have registered, and removed the defer and inline, and the interesting thing i saw, is that my desktop score jumped to 87 without any css

when i implemented the css that i generated for saveatrain.com/blog/

the score on desktop dropped to 73 – https://ibb.co/LN1M4BK

so now i installed css api,
what is going to happen now, because i see there is job queue

my cls with api droped to 0.145, but its still not in the green zone

I don’t see critical CSS used on that page yet saveatrain and AO doesn’t seem to fall back to inlining all CSS (which it does if not applicable rules are found).

Can you
1. on the main tab under CSS optimization check to ensure “inline & defer CSS” is on
2. on the critical css tab check what rules are there (feel free to make a screenshot)

so the cls droped to 0.145 when the inline and defer was not checkmarked.
