• Hi

Most regrettably, my website theme – Midnightcity Premium – was abandoned by the developer two years ago.

This wasn’t an issue up until now, when I need to upgrade my website to PHP 7.1 as it turned out that the theme is not compatible with PHP 7. I ran a compatibility checker tool which identified 18 errors.

Since the theme is no longer being updated and I don’t have the developer’s skills – while I have built my website by myself with some assistance from the theme developer in terms of custom css – it looks like I need to change the theme before the upgrade.

Before I do that (as it will be a big job for me), I’d like to ask for people’s opinion – is it worth fixing those errors somehow, or just let go and install a new theme?

    thanks

We can’t help you except to day “Choose another theme”.

Here’s what is replied when someone asks about any commercial product.

For pro or commercial product support please contact the author directly on their site.

As the author is aware, commercial products are not supported in these forums. As you are their customer I am sure they will have no problem supporting you there.

Which according to you, doesn’t apply because the theme author doesn’t support that theme anymore.

    *Looks*

That’s a pretty basic theme on your site. The ones here on the theme landing page are pretty good.

There’s a theme filter that is useful too there and I suggest that you use that too.

    thanks Jan for your reply.

please note that I did not ask for help to fix this theme, as I’m aware that commercial products are not supported here, but for people’s views whether (generically speaking) it is worth it and would be easy to fix those errors.

Once again, changing the theme will be a time consuming and a big job for me, (I’ve done it twice before) and so I’d like to explore any alternative options beforehand.

Figuratively speaking, if I can fixed a couple of screws I may not have to buy a whole new bookshelf ??

but perhaps in this case I may not have a choice.

What are the actual errors? I can’t see any problem on the front-end, did you not go through with the PHP update?

For a WordPress theme I can’t imagine PHP7 incompatibilities would be terribly difficult to fix, so I’m sure you could pay someone to do it for you. Please try https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or https://jetpack.pro/ and do not accept any hire offers posted to these forums.
