Aargh! Data recovery – I deleted my blog!

youre not going to find files containing your blog entries — theyre stored in a mysql databse.

Reupload the files you deleted. if you deleted the wp-config.php you will need to edit it appropriately so that it connects to the mysql server.

I’ve attempted to reupload/reinstall WP into the same directory. I’ll need to delete the remainder of the files in order to do this.

I’m concerned that if I do this I’ll completely lose the entries/database.

Is there anyway of accessing the database without reinstalling all the deleted files?

Oh, the wp-config.php file is still there.

I’m not sure what files have been lost.

I am able to access my MySQL databases. I’m currently making my way through them in my cPanel… again not sure what I’m looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It’s important that you make a backup of your database, so you can import it back, in case anything goes wrong when you reinstall WP.

Just create a backup file and don’t touch anything in the database.

Save whatever remains of the old files to your desktop, just in case.

Then reinstall WP.

Phew! Alright, so I’ve been able to track down the database which contains the blog entries.

I have exported this via my cPanel (phpmyadmin).

I’m about to delete all the WP files and do a complete reinstall.

Save whatever remains of your files, especially if you still have wp-content, with the theme you are using and plugins.

If only I’d realised how simple it was from the moment I read whooami’s original post!

I made all the necessary backups. Deleted and then reinstalled all the WP files, changed the wp-config.php file to reflect the original database and password and voila – my blog is back in action!

Major relief on my part!

Ok I have done the exact same thing as blahblah007! I looked and one folder but deleted the other! So if I understand well, I back up my database just in case, I copy what’s left of my wordpress folders to my desktop…I should be able to reinstall wordpress with my database info, replace my old plugins and themes folder then I should have my blog back! I will try this but my fingers are crossed.

Eeeww it’s bad. I get “Fatal error: Call to undefined function force_ssl_admin() in /home/.baffled/asuka_aki/lepixelshoppe.com/scrap4dollars/wp-settings.php on line 394” what should I do?

I too have accidentally deleted my blog, including because i thought i was cleaning house, my sql data files of 4000 post. have i come to the point of no return? my hosting company thinks they can get it back using backup and support, but i just want to make sure. please advise but gently please
