There are a lot of people out there who just want to write HTML code into page content. Unfortunately, there is no syntax highlighting for pages as well in Gutenberg as in the classic editor.

WordPress has HTML syntax highlighting in the theme editor or in the HTML widget for widget areas like the sidebar. So I am asking myself why this is no feature for page contents (and also post contents)?

An easy way for Gutenberg to beat the classic editor would be to integrate syntax highlighting for the HTML block. This would give us the option to write the complete page content in HTML without using a tool like Visual Studio Code.

Please people add HTML syntax highlighting for pages and posts! There are some plugins, but they all cause errors!

    Hiya,

Just following up here with some context, as we’ve got a ticket for this and it is being discussed (it was originally removed earlier this year, but is now being considered for re-implementation).

Worth noting that this is not something that will happen for WordPress 5.0.
