    Timing is everything…

I’m building my first WP site on Hostgator shared hosting. Last week I upgraded to cloud hosting and during the migration process Hurricane Harvey struck Texas. Hostgator is in Texas and is now incapacitated. No Tech Support at all. Email notifications advise that the migration to cloud server completed, and my work-in-progress WP site displays in my browser, but I am not able to login to the new cloud-hosting cPanel, nor can I FTP into the new account.

I need to keep working on the site, but my only option is to work on the former shared-hosting account. It may be days (weeks?) before I gain access to the new cloud account, and I worry that work completed on the old shared hosting site will not transfer properly to the new cloud site.

    MY BIG IDEA

    1. Continue to build the site in the old shared-hosting account.

    2. Continue to make backups using UpdraftPlus – a FANTASTIC(!) plugin that has saved me twice already.

    3. When I finally gain access to the new cloud account, make a “final” UpdraftPlus backup of all work completed in the shared-hosting account.

    4. Use that “final” shared-hosting backup to RESTORE the new cloud-hosting website, thereby inserting all the new work into the cloud-hosting WP site.

    Will that work?

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

    Yes, that will work.

Please note though, when restoring UpdraftPlus backup it will overwrite every component of your site.

    Kind Regards,
    Bryle

Thanks. And thanks for the warning. In fact, I do want the entire site to be updated/restored.

UpdraftPlus has done an excellent job of backing up and restoring my localhost work. I’m glad I can continue to rely on it now that I’m (finally) publishing online.
